'Twas the last day before Christmas break and all of Dragon Nation was very, very merry. Special thank you to Mrs. Nussbaum for organizing our 6-8 Merry Makerfest and a huge thank you to all our outside volunteers that came and held wonderful sessions for students!! 💜🎄🎅🏼🎁💛

More festive learning- Students in Mrs. Imm’s fourth grade had to do some quick thinking last week to help get Santa’s elves back to the North Pole in time for Christmas. Students were challenged to design a harness that would safely transport elves on a zip line. The students had to do some creative thinking and engineering. After a few test runs, all students were successful at getting their elves back home safely. 💜🎄🎁💛

So much holiday cheer last week. Sixth grade Dragons were tasked with creating sleighs, powered by Spheros, that would transport five gifts (Hershey’s kisses) 25 feet. They creatively problem solved with their teams, designed festive sleighs, and coded them using the iPads. They learned through failure and had fun making memories. 🛷🎁🎅🎄

Mrs. Imm’s fourth grade social studies classes celebrated the end of the American Revolution with a Red,White, and Blue Banquet. The students studied the battles, important people, and events related to the war. As a culminating activity, they broke out the formal wear and celebrated by writing a toast to all the wonderful patriots that helped earn our freedom. A toast for a job well done, fourth grade. 💜🇺🇸💛

Congratulations to Mrs. Siefker on her recent retirement. She served our students and staff as a cook, and custodian for over 19 years. 💜💛 Thank you Mrs. Siefker for taking pride in your work and making Glandorf Elementary shine🤩!

Congratulations to Coleson in Kindergarten for winning the PTO Christmas Light Challenge!
Thank you to Mrs. Burgei and her STEM students for managing the design process.
Big thanks to Protec, JB Custom Concepts, and Precision Laser for donating time and materials!
How cool for a kindergartener to see their drawing transform into a real life Christmas light!!!
Check it out in the Glandorf Park Light Display!

🎉 We Did It! 150 Pounds of Crayons Collected! 🖍️🌍
A HUGE thank you to everyone who participated in our Crayon Collection Drive for the National Crayon Recycle Program! Together, we collected 150 pounds of old, broken, and unused crayons that will now be recycled and given a second life in classrooms across the country. 🙌
Why is this so important?
Reduces waste: Crayons that might otherwise end up in landfills can be reused, saving precious resources. 🌱
Supports sustainability: The recycling process helps decrease the environmental impact of crayon production and disposal. ♻️
Empowers those in need: The recycled crayons are donated to children facing hardships such as poverty, illness or displacement, providing them with an opportunity to escape, even for a moment, into a world of colors and imagination, fostering a sense of hope and happiness. 🎨✏️
Teaches responsibility: Every crayon recycled is a small but meaningful step toward a more sustainable world. 🌎
By participating, you’ve made a direct impact on the planet and helped foster creativity in children all over the country. Keep up the great work, and let’s continue finding ways to reduce, reuse, and recycle! 🌿✨

Sixth graders in PLTW Design and Modeling learned about Cerebral Palsy and how it might affect a patient's muscles.
In teams, students designed, built, tested, and redesigned an Ankle Foot Orthosis to be modeled on a runway at the end of the challenge!
Big THANK YOU to physical therapist, Casey Luttfring, for taking the time to give our students feedback on their designs! We appreciate it!💜💛

Tonight!!
Go downtown to Ottawa and check out interactive art installation a design team of 7th and 8th grade students designed and built with Alt’s Outdoor Structure!

Happy Thanksgiving Dragon families and friends! We are so thankful for you!💜🦃💛

Mrs. Burgei's classroom was transformed into a hospital today for the 8th grade PLTW Medical Detective course!💜🏥🩺🚑💛

More footage of GROB leading STEM activities for our 7th graders. Light up turkeys and magnetic ghosts🤩💜💛🤩.

GROB apprentices have been keeping our dragons busy! Today they made light up turkeys with our 7th graders and last week they completed a STEM slime activity with our 5th graders. Thank you GROB!!! 💜💛

The last 2 weeks Ms. Ross's 5th graders have been working extensively on Native American Indian projects. They had to create a setting that reflected each tribes climate and landscapes. They had to get creative in showing how to display how each tribe survived and specific details from the text to show understanding. On Friday students from K-3 classrooms got to do a gallery walk and pick their favorite project. Each student had to sit by a project that was not theirs and present it to other classes to show complete understanding of the chapter. Everyone did an amazing job and had fun while doing it!💜💛

Yesterday Mrs. Ansley’s 6th graders finished their soils unit with a tasty treat. Ask your 6th graders to identify the layers and tell you what they know.

Congratulations 8th graders Clare Turnwald and Caleb Schroeder for placing in the 2024 Johnny Appleseed Metro Parks Nature Photo Contest. Clare got 1st in the Youth Landscape category for her Leafy Trail photo and 3rd in the Youth Potpourri category for her Steps at FTA photo. Caleb got 1st in the Youth Potpourri category for his Toad House photo. Prints of their photos will be on display at Art Space Lima (artspacelima.com) through the end of the year, and then displayed in the McElroy Environmental Education Center (MEEC) for 2025. Great job you two!💜🍁📸💛
